The last few weeks I’ve been busy working on new paintings for the next art exchange at the Los Gatos Gallery. However, I’ve been making time to drop into life drawing sessions once a week, not always easy as there never seems to be enough hours in the day!
Life drawing is one of the most important exercises for an artist.Drawing the figure from life on a regular basis helps improve drawing skills and carries over to painting and creativity.I especially enjoy working with the figure and prefer quick poses as they are more dynamic than the longer, usually sitting poses.
I aim to capture the gesture or movement of the model rather than a realistic drawing.Poses usually start at 1 minute increasing to 5, 10 and finally 20 minutes.
